THE THINGS WE ALMOST MISS
A quiet invitation to notice the beauty, courage, and humanity that surround us every day.
We look at things every day.
But how much do we really see?
The Things We Almost Miss is a visual journey through original artwork and the stories behind it—
an invitation to slow down, look again, and discover what we may have overlooked.

What did you notice first?
Take another look.
Did you notice something you missed the first time?
Sometimes what holds our attention is only part of the picture.
About the Book
Life gets busy.
A responsibility. A goal. A problem. Something we're trying to accomplish can occupy so much of our attention that everything else begins to fade into the background.
But life rarely exists in only one place.
There are people, moments, pleasures, memories and parts of ourselves that are easy to overlook—and yet add so much to our lives.
The Things We Almost Miss begins with a simple invitation: look at a piece of art.
Look once.
Then look again.
Through original artwork and the stories of the artists who created it, the book explores what can happen when we slow down, change our perspective and allow ourselves to notice more.
And somewhere along the way, the experience becomes about more than art.
It becomes about how we see our lives.
The Artists Behind the Book
I think this section is important because of something you've said throughout the project: without the artists, there is no book.
The Things We Almost Miss was made possible by six Northeast Wisconsin artists who generously shared not only their artwork, but the stories and moments behind it.
Brian Taylor • Jessica Curning-Kuenzi • Lila Brochá (Maria Victoria Walker) • Heather Peterman • Robin Dequaine • Scott Francis
Their photographs, paintings and mixed-media work aren't illustrations added to the book.
They are where the journey begins.
