Mark Kolinski

Mark approaches clay with an interest in form, surface and possibility. His work moves between sculptural pieces, tiles and vessels, often using abstraction to transform familiar shapes into something unexpected.

Some pieces feel architectural. Others suggest figures, movement or objects we almost recognize.

But recognizing something isn't really necessary.

Part of the pleasure is simply spending time with the work and discovering what you see in it.

That last thought is important for Mark's page. With representational art, we're often asking people to notice something they overlooked. With Mark's abstract work, we're giving them permission to interpret.
