Colorful. Expressive. Unexpected.

MEET THE ARTIST

Maria Victoria Walker (Lila Brochá)

Maria Victoria Walker was born and raised in Manila, Philippines, and immigrated to the United States in 1989. Art began as something she pursued while balancing a career in finance and data architecture and raising a family. She had no formal art training, but continued painting and developing her own artistic voice. Since retiring in 2021, art has become her full-time pursuit.

Working as Lila Brochá—meaning “purple brush”—Vicky creates mixed-media art that brings together textures, patterns, vibrant colors, memories and imagination.

Her work can be playful and whimsical, but it can also explore identity, emotion and transformation. What connects it all may be Vicky's willingness to keep imagining—to see what else a color, shape, memory or idea might become.

Her work has appeared in numerous exhibitions and venues, including the Neville Public Museum, Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, The Hardy Gallery, Wisconsin Maritime Museum, John Michael Kohler Arts Center and others.

LOOK A LITTLE LONGER

What did you notice first?

Stay with it for another moment.

The colors?

The patterns?

The separate pieces?

Or the way they come together?

Look again.

Do you see something broken apart—or something being put back together?

A CREATIVE LIFE STILL UNFOLDING

Vicky's path to becoming a full-time artist didn't begin with art school or a conventional artistic career. Creativity grew alongside work, family and everyday life.

Retirement didn't mark an ending.

It gave something that had been there all along more room to grow.
